–AS EZIACHI SECONDARY SCHOOL OLD BOYS LAUNCHES N500 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FUND
The Imo state Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma has called on Nigerians to always give back to the society, noting that giving back to the society is a virtue and cardinal principle of reciprocity.
Uzodimma who was the Special Guest of Honour, was represented by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu .
He disclosed this at the annual reunion, conferment of Award and Five hundred million naira fund raising ceremony of Old Boys of Eziachi Secondary School in Orlu Local Government Area.
The SGI, who represented the Governor and was also the Chairman of the event, commended Dr. Paschal Nwakuna for his philanthropic gesture and other organisers of the ceremony for their initiative, and pointed out that he was excited, to see the old boys of Eziachi Secondary school, gather to raise fund for the rebuilding of the school that made them.
According to Iwu, he said, ” as we all know, returning to our alma mater from time to time, encourages us to remind ourselves of our days of innocence , especially on how the school shaped our values and understanding of the world generally.”
He further commended Uzodimma for rehabilitating both Primary and Secondary Schools that were left to rot by his predecessors, amongst other things he has done in the education sector.
He also disclosed that government can not do everything and he therefore appealed to well meaning lmolites and philanthropists to complement the efforts of the 3R Mantra administration of Uzodimma, by maintaining school buildings in their communities.
The reunion, conferment of award and fund raising ceremony was well attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, amongst them were Prof Johncliff Nwadike, the Commissioner for Primary and Tertiary Education, Dr Sam Amadi, Director , Abuja School of Social and Political thought , who was the Guest Speaker at the event, Dame Augustina Nneoma Azubuike, Executive Secretary , Imo state Secondary Education Management Board.
While the Old boys in attendance were Sir Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director of United Bank for Africa(UBA), Prof. G.U Chukwumaeze (SAN), Vice Chancellor of Imo State University,Owerri, Dr Okorochukwu Bartholomew, Former Commissioner, His Lordship, Justice Vin Onyeka, Rt. Hon. Canicemore Nwachukwu, Federal House Member representing Orlu Federal Constituency, Hon Member representing Orlu State Constituency in Imo state House of Assembly and others too numerous to mention.
Highlights of the event was fund raising and conferment of award.
