The Tanker Drivers’ Association,to the admiration of many,on Wednesday, suspended it’s strike action.
The strike action was suspended by the union after meeting with the Imo State governor,Sen. Hope Uzodimma at Government House, Owerri.
Uzodimma, Daily Nigerian Horn gathered,set up a 15-member Committee made up of seven from Government side and eight from the concerned union to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
After several hours of meeting, the Committee resolved that moving forward, some steps should be taken.
“On demolition of petrol station in Orlu,it was resolved that the Committee should visit the station to access the extent of damage and advise Government on the appropriate compensation to be paid.
” It was resolved that all revenue collection from Petroleum Marketers by the Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) should be suspended forthwith pending the report of the committee on a holistic approach to revenue collection.
” The committee is to look into allegations of multiple charges, harassment of Tanker Drivers and high handedness by these agencies and come up with Comprehensive solution to mitigate these problems.
” In the light of the above, the relevant authorities of the Tanker Drivers’ Association directs that the strike action by the Tanker Drivers be suspended forthwith and that the supply of the petroleum products to the South East should resume immediately.”
