Saturday, March 13, 2021 was another day to remember in the ancient kingdom of Amaigbo in Nwangele Local Government Area (LGA), as Dr. Johnbosco Ikenna Nkpadobi hosted leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the LGA at his country home in Umuanu Amaigbo.
Dr. Nkpadobi was the PDP candidate in the 2019 general elections and contested to represent Nwangele State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly.
It was a day when leaders and members of the Party in Nwangele LGA, including Ward Executive Committee and LGA Executive Committee members gathered together to chart fresh courses in moving the Party forward in the LGA.
Leading a high-powered delegation from the State Working Committee (SWC) was the State Deputy Chairman, Sir Martin Ejiogu, who stood in for the State Chairman, Engr Charles C. Ugwuh, OON.
Other SWC members in the delegation were the State Secretary, Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña; State Treasurer, Barr. Josiah Eze; Orlu Zonal Chairman, Barr. Chibuisi Obido; State Women Leader, Hon. Chief Mrs. Maria Mbakwe; Zonal Women Leader, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Obianuju Evarista Ihejiagwa; and State Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike. Hon. Mrs. Onwuseribe, Ideato South LGA Women Leader, was also present.
Welcoming and thanking the leaders and stakeholders for attending the meeting, Dr. Nkpadobi said it became necessary to hold the meeting to identify those that are still committed to the Party.
He said he was happy and satisfied that the Party still has a large number of men and women of good conscience, integrity and reputation in Nwangele PDP, appealing for them to closing ranks, regroup and ensure they take back the LGA in the next election. He wished Nwangele PDP success in all their endeavours, with victory in elections as the ultimate.
In his brief speech, the Nwangele LGA Chairman Hon. Chief Sabinus Amadi (Sabama) thanked leaders and stakeholders of the Party in the LGA, as well as the delegation from the State Working Committee, for honouring the invitation to the meeting.
Chief Amadi stated that Nwangele PDP was intact, alive and active as reflected in the calibre of leaders and stakeholders that graced the meeting and the regular meetings of the Party in the LGA.
He stressed that unity, peace and progress have been sustained in the Party, while a Reconciliation Committee with Hon. Emma Ahuoku as Chairman has been constituted to reconcile aggrieved leaders and members that are amenable for reconciliation.
The Nwangele LGA Chairman hinted that there has been the challenge of funding of the Party at both the LGA and the Wards levels, appealing for the leaders and stakeholders to make themselves available for the funding of the Party.
He informed that efforts were in top gear to ensure that the LGA and the Wards opened bank accounts in compliance with the directive from the State Working Committee.
Chief Amadi reported that the LGA has been driving the processes of chapter formation for all the polling units in the Wards and LGA. He concluded by stating that though the times are tough, they are not rough, as the LGA chapter has continued to uphold PDP as the true Party in Nwangele LGA.
Hon. Emma Ahuoku in his speech, to support the LGA Chairman, appealed for more support by the State Working Committee by accommodating leaders and stakeholders of Nwangele PDP in the activities, as their presence is not felt in committees and other official bodies and groups created by the Party. He assured that with the support of the State Working Committee, Nwangele PDP will continue to be a force in the entire LGA both now and in future.
Speaking, members of the State Working Committee present, individually gave words of encouragement, advice, and suggestions to the LGA and Ward Executive Committees and to the leaders and stakeholders on ways to conduct themselves and the activities of the Party to reposition for victory in the future elections.
The State Deputy Chairman and Leader of PDP in the Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele and Njaba Federal Constituency, Sir Martin Ejiogu, thanked all the leaders and stakeholders for attending the meeting, encouraging them to keep supporting the Party to win elections in the LGA and provide good leadership and good governance to the people in the tradition of PDP.
He informed them that it was the desire of the current State Working Committee to ensure that Nwangele PDP was duly carried along in the scheme of things that warranted the Party’s nomination of Ichie Dan Nkpadobi into the past PDP Southeast Zonal Executive Committee as a Zonal Ex-Officio.
He also explained that it was to give Nwangele PDP a sense of belonging that State Working Committee gave solid support for election of the State Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike, who has been making both Nwangele PDP and entire Imo PDP proud with his proven competency and impressive work rate in his office, urging them to continue to give their own son, the State Publicity Secretary all the support that he may need.
Sir Martin Ejiogu implored leaders and stakeholders of PDP in Nwangele LGA, with Dr. Johnbosco Nkpadobi as point of contact, to brace up and deliver Nwangele LGA back to PDP from other unreliable parties, undependable politicians, and criminal elements that stole the Party’s mandates in previous elections, stressing that the State Working Committee is very interested in winning future elections in the LGA, and was committed to providing all relevant and appropriate support that may be required for the leaders and stakeholders to achieve the purpose of reclaiming the LGA in the next election.
He concluded by reminding that it has been agreed that no leader should go from his LGA into another LGA to take control of the Party structures.
He advised the leaders and stakeholders of Nwangele PDP to avoid entering other LGAs to show power, while urging them to stand up to their duties and responsibilities, and stop any intrusions into Nwangele PDP by any leader from any other LGA to dictate to them on policies and strategies of running the Party in the LGA.
That policy decision, according to him, was decided to prevent preventable conflicts and crisis among Party leaders and stakeholders in the various LGAs.
The State Secretary, Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, while corroborating the policy guidelines of the State Deputy Chairman, added that Nwangele PDP must take seriously the policy of chapter formation and reconciliation of aggrieved Party leaders and members in the LGA.
He advised that there should be division of labour to give all Exco members a sense of belonging, while also making the job of running the Party easier, faster and more creative and productive.
The State Secretary informed that it was resolved at the State Executive Committee meeting recently that all LGA chapters and all Zones of the Party hold a Stakeholders Meeting between March 27 and April 3, 2021, whereby the best ways of growing and developing the Party can be discussed, as well as raise funds for the running of the Party at the Ward, LGA and Zonal levels. He charged Nwangele PDP to endeavour to hold their Leaders and Stakeholders Meeting as directed.
Speaking, the State Treasurer, Barr. Josiah Eze, who’s a notable Leader of PDP in Orlu Zone, based his speech on the need for the leaders and stakeholders to stand up strongly to ensure that the Party is duly funded, he advised that the LGA and Wards endeavour to open bank accounts to sustain the transparency and accountability operational mantra of the current State Chairman, Engr. Charles Ugwuh.
The State Women Leader, Hon. Chief Mrs. Maria Mbakwe and the Orlu Zonal Women Leader, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Obianuju Ihejiagwa, in their respective speeches, appropriately directed their words of advice to the Women of Nwangele PDP, as represented by the 11 Ward Women Leaders, urging them to play their roles in ensuring the victory of PDP in future elections.
Earlier in their respective speeches, Chief Melford Akano, Sir Onyekachi Ihekwazu, and Arch. Chief Festus Anyiam had thanked the delegation from the State Working Committee and the leaders and stakeholders of Nwangele PDP at the meeting, declaring their availability, readiness and unflinching commitment towards upholding PDP in Nwangele LGA in all ramifications.
Highpoints of the meeting were the presentation of cash gifts and refreshments from Dr. Johnbosco Nkpadobi, cash gifts from Sir Onyekachi Ihekwazu, and cartons of quality bar soap from Orlu Zonal Women Leader, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Obianuju Ihejiagwa. There were copious photos of the meeting as shot by the Nwangele PDP New Media Officer, Engr. Chamberlain Nwadike. In summary, it was a successful leadership meeting.
