The spate of criminality sweeping across Imo State this time around is rather worrisome.
The Onion had in its editorial of Friday, February 5, 2021, written about ‘Insecurity in Imo State.’
Incidentally, the next day, Saturday, February 6, 2021, the most heinous, dastardly and gruesome murder of former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Barrister Ndionyema H. Nwachukwu, from Arondizuogu LGA of Abia State, was reportedly committed by unknown assailants in his office in Owerri.
Most devastating still is the crude way and manner the lawyer was killed. It was reported that the murderers met him in his office and continued to cut his neck with a machete until he breathed last, while leaving him in a pool of his own blood. What a gruesome act!
A few days after, as Imo people tried to come out from that shock, news came again that a Police Inspector, simply identified as Umoh, shot and killed himself, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at the Imo State Area Command, Owerri.
News also had it that on Friday, February 5, 2021, hoodlums shot and killed three Policemen when they invaded Obowo Police Station, while living several others injured. This is simply bathing Imo state with blood.
The Onion bleeds at heart over these incidents. While writing on ‘Insecurity in Imo State,’ the Onion called on the Imo State Community Policing Committee, headed by His Royal Highness Eze Emmanuel Okeke, to see how they could work in synergy with the Police and other security agencies in Imo State and understudy the kind of insecurity challenges that have crypt into the state, in order to nip them in the bud.
The Onion once again calls on Eze Okeke and his Committee to be up and doing, in doubling their efforts, so as to provide adequate security measures for the people of Imo State, who are now bemused by the spate of gruesome criminality that is sweeping across the state lately.
