In line with its avowed determination to reduce unemployment in the country, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity, Distinguished Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu has promised to partner with the Federal Govt to redress the current vexed issues of mass unemployment, saturated labour industry and low productivity.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the National Assembly, Uwajumogu stated that the Committee must hit the ground running with a view to ensuring that peace, harmony and tranquility, which are essential ingredients for excellence in service delivery, good governance and high productivity is achieved in no distant time.
He added that the Committee must brace up to the challenges ahead to confront the arduous task of steering the ship of the nation’s labour, employment and productivity industry in the right direction.
Sen Uwajumogu commended the leadership of the Senate for selecting members with rich antecedents, enviable backgrounds, vast experience, tested knowledge and high competencies to offer quality and effective oversight functions that will significantly aid the work of the Committee.
In an exclusive interview with reporters, Senator Uwajumogu pointed out that the Committee came at a time of serious economic challenges which has adversely affected employment of youths, though the Federal Govt was doing its best to mitigate and extirpate them.
He promised that the Committee will interact with the Federal Ministry of Employment and Productivity and its parastatals to draw a workable roadmap to improve employment and increase productivity.
