The newly sworn in Commissioner for Technology Development, Hon. Meekam Mgbenwelu has assured of his readiness to use his wide range of exposure and ingenuity to make the state a technological hub in the entire country.
Hon. Meekam made this disclosure Wednesday while speaking with newsmen at Ahiajoku Convention Center, Owerri immediately after he was sworn in by the governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha alongside other commissioners.
The commissioner stated that he would employ every means possible to ensure that the state experienced growth through technology while revealing plans to attract both foreign and local partners to help in the “Rebuild Imo” agenda of the current government.
The Oru West LGA born Public Sector Policy, Information Communications Technology (ICT) expert cum entrepreneur, who expressed gratitude to Ihedioha for finding him worthy of the appointment, assured that he will contribute his quota to ensure that his campaign promises were achieved.
Meekam posited that he has been challenged by the governor through the appointment and would do both the state and the governor proud through his diligence and result oriented services to the best interest of the state.
On the cardinal points of the governor, Meekam averred that he will align with vision of the governor on human capacity building, infrastructural development, economic growth and good governance, with view to ensure its delivery.
He revealed that soonest, he would develop master action plan to xray the real situation on ground and step up activities that will ensure that the programmes were achieved.
He further added that his ministry will ensure partnership with key technology outfits as to empower the youths and unemployed Imolites.
Daily Nigerian Horn gathered that Mgbenwelu attended the famous University of Greenwich, City University and University of Westminster all in the United Kingdom and his academic background includes (BA Hons) Political Economy, (MSc.,) Information Management and (MBA) Business Administration.
In addition to formal courses of study, he has also attended several short courses locally and international, including Pan African University, Lagos, Nigeria and the Open University, UK and his expertise covers Strategic Management, Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluations, Human Capital Development and Operations Management.
Equally, he has over 25 years senior executive experience with a varied career in the public and private sectors and his work experience spans periods locally and internationally.
He has served as a Subject Matter Expert to the Federal Government of Nigeria in the Power Sector Reform Programme. While at the Prof. Barth Nnaji led Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP), Meekam led the team that developed and deployed a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Map of the national power assets.
Under the Chairmanship of Dr. Christopher Kolade led SURE-P, Meekam led the organisations’ team on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning and Reporting,
Also at SURE-P, the new Imo Technology Department Commissioner automated the Monitoring and Evaluation Systems covering the sectoral areas of Social Safety-Net (Community and Youth Services, Maternal Childcare, Technical and Vocational Education) and Critical Infrastructure (Roads, FERMA and Railways)
He has extensive work experience such as working in several countries in the Sub Saharan African namely Ghana, Benin Republic, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). And has also worked for Microsoft Corporation in Nigeria where led the Marketing and Intellectual Property Compliance Team.
As a member of several professional associations including the Nigerian Institute of Management and Nigerian Association of Evaluators, he has served as a reform expert hired by the European Union to re-engineer a major revenue agency of the Government of Botswana.
