For the first time since the commencement of the Election tribunal cases, the Imo State Governor, Chief EmekaIhedioha stormed the tribunal in the company of his Chief of Staff Okewulonu and other top government officials.
The appearance which took many by surprise saw hordes of his supporters’ massing around him with many adorning his trade mark green cap in solidarity
It would be recalled that after the March 9 Imo gubernatorial election the three main opposition parties namely the Action Alliance (AA), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the candidates moved into the tribunal to challenge the victory of Governor EmekaIhedioha.
The Action Alliance candidate, UgwumbaUcheNwosu is asking that he be declared the winner because according to him he won the election.Nwosu is the runner up to Ihedioha.
The second runner up, Senator IfeanyiAraraume who has been pursuing his case with unrelenting zeal is asking that the election be cancelled because the governor did not meet the constitutional requirement of winning the votes in 2/3 of the local governments.
Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a purported result is also claiming that he be declared the winner of the election.
In spite of entreaties by some well-meaning citizens of Imo state urging those challenging the guber election to drop their matter, all the three opposition parties have stuck to their gun and all claiming possible victory.
Meanwhile anxiety appears to be mounting in the camp of Governor Ihedioha of what becomes his fate if the election tribunal orders a re-run or outright cancellation of the election result. Ihedioha however, is yet to open up defence.
The legal firework from the Araraume legal team who has succeeded in providing mountain evidence of undeclared results which were admitted appears to be unsettling the PDP supporters.
Some PDP die hard supporters however, expressed optimism that no matter what happens, re-run or outright cancellation, Governor Ihedioha they claimed will clinch victory even if the election is re-conducted as many times as is possible.
