Considering the cultural and traditional importance of cultivating, harvesting and eating of New Yam in the life of an Igbo man, HRH Eze Oliver Ohanweh has announced his preparation of making his 2019 Irji Cultural Fiesta as a mother of all Festivals.
Eze Ohanweh who is the traditional ruler of Ihim Autonomous Community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State disclosed this in his Wisdom Palace Ancestral Residential Complex last Monday while addressing newsmen on the activities ear marked to herald that day.
According to the revered traditional ruler “I and my cabinet members, including Eze’s in Council have resolved and chosen Saturday (Afor) 12th October, 2019 as the historic date to organize their Irji Cultural Heritage and this year Festival is jam-packed with the first of its kind exhibition of the people’s cultural and traditional heritages, our various masquerades and dance troupes will be a delight to the attendees”, he assured.
The traditional ruler pointed out that the highlight of the occasion will be planting of over one million palm seedlings and harvesting of palm fruits in line with the Federal government and CBN recent agricultural revolution policies.
Obi Gburugburu as he is popularly called also informed that efforts have been geared towards making Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Executive Governor of the State to be in attendance as personalities from the Presidency and other States of the Federation have shown interest to be in attendance.
He pointed out that the Festival is geared towards the exhibition of his people’s rich cultural and traditional heritages and efforts being made to promote and sustain them.
Ohanweh passionately appealed to corporate organizations and individuals for sponsorship informing that over 10,000 Nigerians and foreigners will grace the occasion.
While advising Nigerians on the need to promote and sustain their cultural and traditional heritages, the traditional ruler described culture as the peoples way of living noting that a Community without culture and tradition is as good as being dead.
He cautioned against allowing Igbo culture and traditions to go into extinction at the expense of foreign cultures noting that the spirit of their ancestors will forever resist the efforts.
