The Imo State Governor, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has commended the former Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, ENTRACO GM Hon Alex Emeziem, SA Waste Management Hon Emeka Okpokoro and other Imolites for their participation to ensure the desire result of the Rebuild Agenda in the sanitation exercise in the State.
The commendation came shortly after flagging-off the Waste Bag at Douglas junction Owerri, by the Governor, to enhance the clean-up exercise both at home and in the business premises.
According to him, the Waste Bag will be used to pack refuse and deposit by the roadside to be remove on daily basis by the sanitary management.
He recalled that the state has once won the cleanest state in the country, that with the creame of experts to help in the clean-up exercise, he maintained that the state will regain its lost glory, urging all and sundry to sustain the enthusiasm in the sanitary exercise.
Furthermore he stated that the government has provided facilities to ensure the evacution of refuse across the State, assuring Imo people that with clean environment, the State will witness massive investment and opportunities.
Speaking to journalists, the ENRACO General Manager, Hon Alex Emeziem, expressed happiness over the turnout of people on the sanitation day, calling on Imo people to take the clean-up exercise seriously, adding that they are working towards realizing Imo State as the cleanest State in the Federation.
He noted that the use of mobile court in the sanitation exercise, is to instill discipline, pointing out that people who loiter about while on environmental day attracts some fee, according to him such will serve as a deterrent to others.
Advising Imo people to always comply with the directives of the sanitary officers as regards to dumping of refuse for evacution.
For the Special Adviser to Governor on Waste Management, Hon Emeka Okpokoro, described the exercise as a wonderful one, noting that the August sanitation exercise will be a massive outing, as they have vowed to ensure the opening of every guttar and manhole to allow free flow of water.
Okpokoro, urged Imo people to cooperate with the agency to achieve the desired aim of the Rebuild mantra of the state Governor.
According to him, the agency have outlined work plan and programmes to be unveiled soon, which after, Imo will witness a turn around as the most cleanest state not only in Nigeria but in Africa.
