The Imo State government has declared Friday the 26th and Saturday 27th of July as general sanitation days in the State.
This was disclosed on Monday by the Chairman of Imo State Sanitation committee, Dr. Ikedi Ohakin, while briefing Journalists shortly after the committee meeting held at Imo State Police headquarters, Owerri.
The Chairman of the committee narrated that the sanitation exercise for Friday 26th July will commence by 7:00am to end by 10:00am same day in the one hundred and five (105) markets in the State while Saturday 27th July sanitation exercise will be observed in the whole parts of the State same 7:00am to end by 10:00am with absolute attention to catering away refuse.
Ohakin announced that the Imo State Commissioner of Police CP Rabiu Ladodo will supervise the clean up exercise in the entire Orlu Zone, the commander of the artillery brigade will supervise Okigwe Zone while the Governor and every member of the committee will supervise various Local Government Areas.
He also disclosed that 470 trucks for refuse disposal, 70 pay loaders and other equipments have been made available for the two days sanitation exercise.
Ohakim called on individual, religious leaders, traditional rulers and institutions to cooporate to enable them achieve the target and revealed the intention of Governor Emeka Ihedioha to award the cleanest primary school, secondary school in each of the senatorial districts, award cleanest tertiary institution and autonomous community.
