Penultimate Friday, Nigerians were confronted with the gruesome killing of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the chairman of Yoruba sociocultural group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.
Mrs. Olakunrin died of gun shot wounds when she and her entourage was way laid at a junction at Ore Ondo state by yet to be apprehended gunmen.
The killing of Mrs. Olakunrin has evoked different reactions from all sections of the country with many calling on the security chiefs to resign since they can no longer guarantee the safety of ordinary Nigerians.
Daily Nigerian Horn while condemning and condoling the family of the deceased, calls on the Inspector General of Police, to take immediate and decisive steps to arrest the killers of this woman. It is unfortunate that under this administration who has security as one of their cardinal programmes, the nation has become a killing field with insurgents, kidnappers, armed robbers, bandits and assassins having a field day waylaying, maiming and killing innocent Nigerians.
Today Nigerians cannot travel from one city to another without encountering one calamity or another.
It has equally scared investors and visitors to the country away who now see the country as grossly insecure, dangerous and unwelcome.
It is in this wise that we call on the authorities especially the Federal Government to take concrete steps in arresting the security situation in the country.
Mrs. Olakunrin must not die in vain. Her death should awake the consciousness of all Nigerians to the security situation in the country and mobilize the citizens to confront this malaise.
