Honestly, I was very, very sick. I have never being sick like this all my life. I don’t know if it was/is terminal as Mr. Ogu Bundu Nwadike Special Assistant to Governor Emeka Ihedioha insinuated, but one thing, I give thanks to the Almighty God for allowing me more days.
I also thank Him for using many people to assist me especially Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu (Mmirioma Imerienwe), my brother Chief Dr. T.O.E Ekechi, Sir Benneth Nwokojiobi (Duke), Prof. Jude Njoku, High Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku, Engr. Peter Ohagwa and many others. Note: Ugwumba Uche Nwosu was not mentioned.
You see, I believe the hardest job in journalism is to be employed as a “Hatchet man”, or “attack dog”. As a hatchet man, you lose all sense of morality, dignity and character. You don’t even sleep because you will be sniffing through all the pages of newspapers and listening to all the Radio Stations to hear when the person who employed you was mentioned. And pronto, you attack the unfortunate person.
I don’t know Ogu Bundu (very good name) and I am sure that he do not know me, otherwise he couldn’t have called me poor or hungry fellow. By the Special Grace of God, I have achieved what any decent young man could dream in life. With two (2) graduates while others are still doing “School run” I could not possibly be characterized as poor. As early as possible, I have had my days although circumstances do change which I am trying to overcome. It happens to every man. So, what Ogu Bundu knew about me is “beer parlour” gossip. When I had the opportunity, I helped many people. I will not be ashamed if God is using some people to help me at this hour of need.
You see, people like Ogu Bundu (SA) thrives in propaganda and yellow journalism. Their language is vulgar without any shame. It is unfortunate that the only criteria for appointing him Special Assistant to the current governor was his vulgar language against Rochas Okorocha and his family. Truth, Ogu Bundu has been consistent in abusing the former governor to curry favour. He has nothing to offer. He is just an attack dog. Very unfortunate for journalism.
Truthfully, the only key appointment made by Governor Emeka Ihedioha so far is that of his Chief Press Secretary CPS, Chibuike Onyeukwu. A nice and humble young man who has toiled with his principal. Chibuike will not hurt a fly. All other key appointments are unfortunate. I believe the governor knows this. Only time will tell if he regrets it. You see, to build or rebuild, one must lay a solid foundation which the wind and the storm cannot uproot. With his appointments, the governor has not laid a solid foundation for his “Rebuild Imo” project. Most of his key appointees cannot be trusted. That is why I brought the analogy of King Abimelech and his mother’s kinsmen, the Shechemites. We may not have the space to analyze this classic in the Bible. But suffice it to say that the story of King Abimelech and the people of Shechem was that of treachery, blackmail, backstabbing and betrayal.
You see, people like Ogu Bundu Nwadike MA, will not allow Governor Ihedioha to see or hear the groanings of the long suffering PDP members who worked tirelessly for his victory and who unfortunately have been neglected. The groanings are becoming louder by the day. Ogu Bundu and his film like the Shechemites will not allow His Excellency to see the tears of illustrious sons and daughters of Mbaise who sacrificed party loyalty and morality to see that the jin that no Mbaise man will be Imo governor was broken. Today many of them have been sidelined and in most cases vilified.
I am happy that people like Ogu Bundu will not look into the eyes of governor Ihedioha to advice him to be a statesman by keeping off the politics of Iriji Mbaise. A situation where he was alleged to have humiliated Sir Stanley Amuchie by removing him as the 2019 chairman of the iriji Mbaise and relegating him to the less fancied Chief Harvester while allegedly appointing his kinsman Prof. Aguwa as the chairman was unfortunate.
You see, I want governor Ihedioha to succeed because of “ihe onu na ekwu or Ihe onu ga ekwu” and that is why we must always put him on his toes.
It is early days I agree, but the signal is not comfortable. Some of us have information which the SA’s don’t have and that is why when we write, the wise listens. I don’t criticize my leaders. God forbid. But we will not wait for the governor to fumble before correcting him as one writer had suggested in his reply to my article. Neither will I praise him as some sychophants are doing because he is yet to do anything tangible for Imo people to see. That is why I am not comfortable for the paths the governor had chosen to begin his tenure. Enough mistakes have already been made. Mark my words, Imo people will not praise the governor for recovering all the loots from Okorocha and his family. At the end of the day, they will ask what projects or programmes he has achieved. I know the recovery stuff is solely the agenda of the political elites. They did it to Chief Achike Udenwa and Chief Ikedi Ohakim.
For those who did not understand my message in that article, but allowed the headline to bamboozle them, my message is simple: Imo needs calm and stability to develop. I had expected Governor Ihedioha to quietly go to work and correct all the observed lapses. After all government is a continuum. But he allowed himself to be dragged to the present uncertainty.
The governor by nature is a meticulous man and it therefore baffles me how he succumbed to intimidation and blackmail by those who may not be wishing him well. We know them. There is nothing wrong in swallowing pride and continue with the little Okorocha did. That is why I brought Uche Nwosu into the picture. With Uche Nwosu as governor, the state could have witnessed more growth. Continuity and stability is the only recipe for a state like Imo to grow economically and politically. But some people who has always been in the corridors of power from Tanko Zubairu to Achike Udenwa to Ikedi Ohakim to Rochas Okorocha and now hibernating in the government of governor Emeka Ihedioha, wouldn’t allow that to happen. They eat in crisis and instability. Unfortunately they will be the first to mobilize the innocent folks that the governor is corrupt or wicked. The poor masses are not in government and do not know about this.
To conclude this piece, I believe that it is not late for His Excellency to retrace his steps and toe the path of peace and reconciliation. A situation where anyone who criticizes Okorocha is welcome and given a position in his administration is not good. Let us reduce the tension in the state to ensure progress. What goes around comes around. Goodluck Sir.
