The former governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has boasted that “no real Imo man or woman would take to the street to protest against him. A man who gave them free education, security, infrastructure, etal”.
Okorocha who is the senator for Imo West (Orlu zone), stated this in a release he issued through his Special Adviser Media, Sam Onwuemeodo on Friday and availed Saturday Nigerian Horn.
The former governor accused the PDP government in Imo state of spending N16 billion on stage – managed protests and sponsored media attacks against him (Okorocha).
The release reads:
“We want to humbly alert all men and women of conscience that between May 29, 2019 and now, the PDP government in Imo state with Chief Emeka Ihedioha as governor has spent N16billion on stage-managed protests and sponsored media attacks against Senator Rochas Okorocha and on fictitious renovations of certain government structures.
“And the government has done all these to impugn on the image of the former governor and to discredit his landmark achievements. Governor Ihedioha obviously is intimidated by Okorocha’s achievements, and having known that he cannot achieve one-tenth of all that Okorocha did, even in twenty years they have decided to discredit the former governor’s achievements.
“For instance on Thursday, July 11, 2019, (yesterday) PDP members from Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency were brought to Owerri in buses to Protest against the former governor in the name of Town Unions. And those whose names were listed as the writers of what they presented as a letter to the governor were all card-carrying members of the PDP. This is the height of deceit.
“For 12 years, PDP governed the State and nothing on ground to show for that outing. And APC government for 8 years did what they could not do in 12 years. So, they feel challenged and intimidated. That is the reason they want to discredit Okorocha’s projects and also blackmail him. And that is also the reason behind the stage-managed Protests and Sponsored media attacks.
“They have also begun to tamper or damage some of the former governor’s Projects to back their claim of embarking on fictitious renovations. And billions of naira have been spent to that effect. That is the reason the two flyovers built by Okorocha, Imo people had used for three and half years before Ihedioha’s coming are no more good overnight, with a mysterious Pothole around the one at Amakohia while they used red sand to block the one at Orji. And they have also tampered with the two tunnels.
“And Rochas built these flyovers and tunnels to ease traffic and save lives because people had died at these areas including a serving Commissioner under Ikedi Ohakim at Concord Hotel Junction where one of the tunnels is situated. That is also why a brand new governor’s lodge the former governor built and left twenty-four hours before the arrival of the new governor has become an eyesore over night.
“The new governor has found fault with all that Okorocha did including the befitting Justice Oputa High Court Complex that should be second to none in the Country. This is very unfortunate. They are traumatized that what their party, the PDP could not do in 12 years, the APC government did in 8years. That is their headache.
“The governor has also allowed traders to come back to Ekeukwu Market and they have totally vandalized the Somto Hospital built by Okorocha to the extent of removing everything inside the place including the ties. Something that was built with government’s money.
“Nigerians should not listen to the PDP government in the State at the moment and should not take them serious. It is a government of deceit. A government that will go to a very smooth road at night and dig big hole at the middle of it and go back there in the morning with Journalists to show them that Okorocha built inferior road. Such government does not worth attention but prayers for repentance.
“Finally, no real Imo man or woman would take to the street to protest against Okorocha. A man who gave them free education, security, infrastructure, etal. In 2015, they had also brought PDP women and gave them black attire to wear and said they were Imo widows protesting against Rochas. Five of those women lost their husbands for wishing themselves widowhood. The fact is that Rochas Okorocha is the defending Champion of Imo governorship. It is not a “garagara” thing but a matter of achievements and track record.”
